I've been thinking a lot this year with all the conversations sparked during Black Lives Matter campaigns about the role VC and other major tech players play in perpetuating the problem. Can the problems ever be fixed while we operate in a zero-sum game? In VC we are saying there have to be winners and losers - there's one finite sized pie and we want to get as much of it as we can. The argument for equality is one of abundance - just because we invest in one more Black founder doesn't mean another deserving white founder loses out. Yet most folks don't subscribe to that view so it will remain "either or" meaning we can never change anything for good...
